Peggy Guggenheim

Biography

Born in New York in 1898, she died in Camposanpiero (Pd, Italy) in 1979. In 1938 she founded the Guggenheim Jeune in London. In 1949 she bought Palazzo Venier dei Leoni in Venice, and created the eponymous foundation. Her advisers include one of the century's greated artists, Marcel Duchamp. Due to her patronage, the Fucina degli Angeli workshop attracted the best artist of the past century, and she subsidised the glasswork through a 50% corporate contract. In 1965 in New York she organised a great exhibition of glass sculptures.
