Maestro Tagliapietra's hommage to De Chirico's art.
The Disquieting Muses (Le Muse inquietanti) is a Murano glass sculpture in massello Murano glass and calcedonio finish inspired by the 1918 De Chirico's painting and consisting of two pieces. The two mannequin statues - one standing and the other sitting - are motionless dressed in classical clothing and placed in a metaphysical space. They represent Melpomene and Thalia, the Muses of tragedy and comedy.
Its peculiar colors are due to the calcedonio technique. The coloring effect is obtained by adding to the molten glass a mixture based on different metal oxides. The results are incredible.
Hand-made in Murano by Andrea Tagliapietra, following the ancient Murano glass techniques.
