Fulvio Bianconi for Venini at Le stanze del vetro

Fulvio Bianconi is the new featured artist of Le Stanze del Vetro on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, famous for its neo-classical basilica, the beautiful view of San Marco, and for being home of the Giorgio Cini Foundation and its glass exhibitions.

From September 13th, 2015 to January 10th, 2016.

300 of Bianconi’s artworks created for Venini glassworks are presented at this exhibition curated by Marino Barovier with Carla Sonego. Some of them, dated from the end of the 40’s to the middle 50’s, show a particularly productive and brilliantly innovative moment for the Muranese furnaces - new techniques of glass processing were formulated at that time - and for Bianconi himself.

His glass artworks have a subtle irony and a lively sense of colour, the symbol of a carefree era which was confident about the future.

If color has became the signature style of Fulvio Bianconi’s style this is due to incredibly successful. First, the Handkerchief vase (1949), a true milestone of the Venini company that has also become a typical theme on the Muranese production. Then, the Spots (1950), Perforated (1951-52), Piedbald (1950-51), Horizontal Bands (1950 and 1953-56), Vertical Bands (1950-51), Wedges (1953- 57) and the – today very rare – Scottish series (1954-57).

A must see for Murano glass and design enthusiasts.
