Eraldo Mauro was born in the province of Udine (Italy) in 1956. He currently lives and works in Venice, the city where he trained, a pupil of Vittorio Basaglia, at the Academy of Fine Arts. Eraldo is famous for some of his works that, by recreating the interior of a photographic laboratory - the 'Camera Oscura' - aim to investigate the evocative power of the perception of colour through the common thread that binds together alchemy, glass and slides. Similar to the gold of the alchemists, in fact, glass is also the result of a process of "transmutation of matter" which, through fire, from opaque becomes shiny and transparent. His first solo exhibition in Venice opened at the Il Traghetto gallery in 1989. This was followed by solo and group exhibitions in various cities in Italy and abroad. In 1995, as artist-in-residence, he was invited by the Griffis Foundation for a 9-month stay in New London (CT, USA). At the same time, some of his works were presented at the Meyerovich Gallery in San Francisco, making Mauro part of the gallery's group of artists. After a number of group exhibitions, including the Old Lyme Academy, in October '95 his solo exhibition was held at the Ginsberg Gallery in New London, CT. In October 1996, he opened his first solo exhibition in New York at Hugo De Pagano Gallery, with a presentation by Pulitzer Prize winner William Meredith. In May 1997, he held his second solo exhibition in New York, entitled 'Broken Heart', at the Frau Gallery, sponsored by the Italian Cultural Institute of New York and presented by the American writer Kurt Vonnegut. Some of his works are requested for the making of the film 'For Richer or Poorer' produced by Universal Studios in New York. In June '97 he was present at the 'Intersecando...si' exhibition sponsored by the Venice Biennale. In 1998 he began a collaboration with the Goldstrom Gallery in New York. In 1999 he presented the 'SLIDES-diapositive' project, with a presentation by the writer Paolo Maurensig, at the Rossella Junck Gallery in Venice.
