This volume, the catalogue of the exhibition held in Empoli from 29 November 2014 to 2 June 2015, documents the events and activities of two historical glassworks in the area, whose production ranges from wine and oil containers to table glass and artistic glass.
While Etrusca only produced its articles in green glass, Taddei expanded its sample collection to white and coloured glass, up to sound or half-crystal glass.
At the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, the two companies began to produce, alongside the usual bufferia production, glass for the table and artistic glass using the traditional green flask glass, an inexpensive and non-valuable material known as 'verde Empoli', which became the symbol of the tradition of the Empoli manufactures.
The choice of the two companies was aimed at finding new commercial outlets in addition to those already consolidated (flasks, demijohns, bottles and bufferia in general), but it soon turned into a cultural operation, in which green glass from flasks and demijohns - from the humble material it was - became an original interpreter of modern decorative art.
