Andrea Rioda

Andrea Rioda, who was born in Murano in 1854 and died there in 1921, was a leading figure in the Murano glassmaking industry.
He was a director of C.V.M. before founding his own furnace, Andrea Rioda & C., in 1910 together with Stefano Zanetti.
This new firm took over the prestigious Palazzo Da Mula to establish its headquarters there.
Rioda's death came just as, acaused by the adverse economic situation, his company was on the verge of merging with the larger Cappellin Venini & C.
After his death, Giulio Radi, along with other former Andrea Rioda & C. glassblowers, received support from Heir Dr. A. Salviati & C. to reorganize and establish themselves as Andrea Rioda Successors.
In 1932, Giulio Radi left to co-found Arte Vetreria Muranese (A.VE.M.).
In 1937, however, the firm Successors Andrea Rioda ceased operations.
