The second chapter of LE STANZE DEL VETRO on Murano glass at the Venice Biennale covers 1932 to 1942, spanning the 18th to the 23rd Biennale, from the inauguration of the Venice Pavilion to the last Biennale before World War II's interruption.
Initially established for decorative arts by the 'Istituto Veneto per il Lavoro', the Venice Pavilion celebrated the minor arts, showcasing them at the Venice Art Biennale.
This period allowed Murano to highlight its finest glassworks, benefiting from the Biennale's exposure.
Key contributors included Venini with Carlo Scarpa, and Barovier Seguso Ferro with Flavio Poli, among others like Salviati and Successori Rioda.
The chapter, accompanied by a catalogue edited by Marino Barovier and Carla Sonego, showcases these works through period documents, highlighting Murano's significant influence and artistic evolution during these crucial years.
