Shelley James, after training in textiles at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, has pursued a career in corporate design for international clients such as Visa International, Shell and Habitat.
Later, fulfilling the wish to explore the themes of perception and reality, she enrolled at the University of the West of England: here she studied printmaking and - with the support of the National Glass Centre in Sunderland and Arts Council England - has developed new techniques to encapsulate prints in glass.
Currently she has completed several collaborations with scientists - thanks to the ongoing Residency with the Bristol Eye Hospital and PhD research at the Royal College of Art in London - exploring the intersection between material and virtual spaces.
Recent exhibitions of Shelley’s work include the MRC Centenary “From DNA to the Brain” at Somerset House, the “Illusions” exhibition at the Science Gallery in Dublin, the Saatchi-curated exhibition of Recent Graduates at Selfridges in London.
