Venice Carnival 4The Carnival of Venice renews and strengthens its 2015 Edition with artistic performances spread across the town and during the entire period of the Festival, in theatres, in museums and in public Institutions.

The Venetian Carnival visitor can experience a rich number of appointments, created in close collaboration with prestigious Venetian artists. With the essential support of cultural and artistic personalities active in the city, Stefano Karadjov - artistic director of the Venetian Carnival - has created a palimpsest which chronicles this year's theme: food in the Venetian civilization and art.Venice Carnival 3 A Carnival that will suit all tastes, as pointed out by Mr. Karadjov:"The Carnival becomes an event that engages the entire city reaching - thanks to cultural institutions that are involved with original productions and events - all different kinds of public: both Venetians and visitors".The collaboration with the Teatro Stabile del Veneto, that has begun in recent editions of the Carnival, will be extraordinary this year with two Carnival-themed productions.
The first is "Women in love - Shakespeare's women" directed by Giuseppe Emiliani, which completes a journey begun in 2012, continued in 2014 and finalized in this Edition with eight female characters that describe their own drama in four different shows, every day from Saturday 31st January to Tuesday 17th February at Ca' Rezzonico and at Palazzo Mocenigo. The show is a tribute to the female characters in Shakespeare's play but is also a great celebration of costumes (thanks to the wonderful clothes made by Stefano Nicolao).
In "Goldoni Experience – a Venetian fresco" (Wed 11th - Tue 17th Feb) at the Teatro Goldoni, Giuseppe Emiliani stages a tribute to Carlo Goldoni. An interesting way to delve into the Venetian daily life of the 18th Century, made possible thanks to the scenes by Emanuele Luzzati.Venice Carnival 2But the Carnival is also a great opportuinity to visit or return to places of science and culture, normally not accessible such as the Archivio di Stato, where you can learn about the history of food in ancient maps of Venice: fraud and adulteration, banquets, secret spices and much more (from Saturday 7th to Tuesday 17th Feb).
Always connected with the theme of food in history, the Querini Stampalia Foundation exhibits the paintings by the 18th Century painter Gabriel Bella (Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th February). At the Institue of Venetian Science Literature and Arts - Palazzo Franchetti an extraordinary film production will be shown: "The Bridge of Sighs", film made in 1921, recently restored and accompanied with live piano by Antonio Coppola (Fri 13th February); the conference with the great chef Gualtiero Marchesi, "En attendant l'Expo" (Fri 6th February) together with Gian Piero Brunetta and Davide Rampello; finally the show the famous Venetian magician 'Silvan'. Venice Carnival 1  The program of this year's Carnival is richer than ever, and for all the scheduled events we advise you to consult the official website: http://www.carnevale.venezia.it/en/events-list/
