"Thomas Stearns alla Venini", curated by Marino Barovier, is the next autumn exhibition of LE STANZE DEL VETRO, open to the public on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore from 9 September 2019 to 5 January 2020.

The American artist attended the Venini glassworks in the early 1960s and, after an initial period in which he approached the Murano techniques, he began to create some works with an extremely original and unusual character for local production. Thus small series of glasses were born, conceived as an artistic expression with a sculptural character, distinguishable by the asymmetrical and organic forms and by the singular glassy fabrics, of great materiality with unusual chromatic combinations.

In 1962, at the 31st Biennale, Venini exhibited, together with the glasses by Tobia Scarpa, also six pieces by Thomas Stearns which received the applause of the jury. Celebrate his pieces: Il Cappello del Doge, Facades of Venice. For these works the gold medal was proposed but it could only be assigned to an Italian artist.

The exhibition will also highlight the interest that Stearns also turned to cold finishing techniques and lighting, enhancing both artistic expression and technical research.
