Soffiato

The blown glass technique dates back to the 2nd century BC.
Previously, to obtain or containers, an incandescent glass wire was wound around a friable earthy core, smoothing and compacting the wire, the object was decorated and finished and then, removing the friable core from the inside.
This artistic technique is based on the energy that the human lungs are capable of.
An essential tool for blowing glass is the canna da soffio (blow pipe).
The incandescent glass is taken directly from the crucible with the blow pipe and blown by mouth.
The finest pieces are modeled with the mano volante (flying hand) technique.
Then, thanks to this technique, over time the masters dedicated themselves to a more in-depth research on molds and their use.
