Until January 18th 2017
18 Murano glass masters have created glass cribs to celebrate Christmas.
During the Holiday Season, along the Christmas Tree you’ll find a Nativity scene – presepio - in every Italian house.
The first nativity scene was created by Saint Francis of Assisi in 1223, after visiting the Holy Land where he had been shown Jesus’ traditional birthplace.
For the second year the wonderful Chiesa degli Scalzi in Venice – the church located near the railway station and completed in 1680 on a Longhena project – is home to an exhibition of Murano glass cribs.
The Murano Viva association, in collaboration with the Discalced Carmelite Fathers of Venice and sponsored by the City of Venice, has organized the event.
18 glass master have their artworks exhibited there: Dino and Diego Rosin, Paolo Crepax , Franco e Mauro Panizzi, Dario Frare , Walter Furlan , Matteo Seguso, Simone Rossetto, Mario and Francesco Badioli, Mattia Nasta, Matteo Fusaro, Pietro and Andrea and Nicola Barbini, Paolo Cenedese , Adriano and Stefano Dalla Valentina, Mauro Vianello , Roberto Beltrami, Marco and Michele and Giorgio Giuman, Stefano Mattiello, Moreno Bardella with the Scuola Abate Zanetti .
