Vittorio Basaglia (Venice 19/08/1936 - Valeriano di Pinzano al Tagliamento 25/02/2005) studied at Rovereto grammar school, having lived in the Trentino city between 1946 and 1956. Afterwards, Basaglia moved to Venice where he continued his classical studies before graduating from art school. As a painter, he began exhibiting in 1954, participating in the annual collective exhibitions of the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice.
He attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Marino Marini. He took part in major art events including the Quadriennale in Rome, the Paris Biennale and the 11th Biennale in Alexandria, Egypt. He taught at the Academy of Urbino and the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice.
A painter, sculptor and engraver, he has taken part in numerous exhibitions in Italy and Europe. Many of his works can be found in various Italian and foreign museums. In 1994, the Galleria Internazionale d'Arte Moderna Cà Pesaro in Venice dedicated a large anthological exhibition to him. Countless group and personal exhibitions, works in public collections, monumental works and awards have been won. From 1985 he lived in Valeriano di Pinzano al Tagliamento until his death.
Giuseppe Mazzariol, a great critic who recently passed away, described him as an 'aristocratic artist, heretic by merit, passionate and ironic... uncomfortable'.
He collaborated with several glass masters in Murano, including Mauro Eraldo and Mario Furlan.
