It is a metal bar, a long rod, and so called "pastoral" used to bring to the heat the plates on which murrine, beads or rods are put to get in the oven to be worked and transformed in "vetro murrino" or filigrana compositions.
The term can also indicate a specific part of the Venetian chandelier that has a shape that reminds the upper part of the pastoral staff (round-shaped, as a spyral).
