Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1) How much does shipping cost?

Shipping costs are automatically calculated during the checkout process, based on several factors including the size, weight and value of the items, the destination country and the selected shipping method.

You can simulate an order during checkout to view the available shipping options and costs for your destination.

2) Where is authentic Murano glass produced?

Murano is an island located a short distance from Venice. In 1295, by decree of the Republic of Venice, all glass furnaces were moved to the island in order to reduce the risk of fires in the city.

In today’s global market, the name “Murano” is frequently subject to counterfeiting. Conservative estimates suggest that a significant percentage of products sold online or in shops worldwide as “Murano glass” are not actually made on the island.

3) Who are MuranoNet and MuranoVitrum?

MuranoVitrum is a registered trademark established in 2009 as a continuation of a journey that began in the 1950s with Giancarlo Angi, whose mission was to sell, promote and represent excellence in Murano glassmaking.

Today, the brand is managed by the next generation through two physical stores in Venice, sharing the same core business and values.
MuranoNet is the online sales platform of MuranoVitrum.

4) Why is it so easy to misuse the name “Murano”?

“Murano” is not a trademark but a geographical origin. This makes legal protection complex and has contributed to widespread misuse, counterfeiting and misleading certifications.

An official designation of origin does exist: the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark, managed by the Promovetro Consortium. However, adherence is not mandatory and may be costly for some producers.

5) Does MuranoNet sell only glass made on the island of Murano?

MuranoNet primarily offers glass produced on the island of Murano. However, in order to provide a broader and more accessible selection, the catalog may also include items produced outside the island.

👉 The origin of each product is always clearly indicated on the product page, ensuring full transparency for the customer.

6) How can I be sure that the item I am purchasing is authentic Murano glass?

If you purchase from MuranoNet
MuranoNet originates from a project started in the 1950s with historic stores in Murano and Venice. We have been online since 1997 and have developed long-standing relationships with selected glass masters and producers.
Products are mainly sourced from Murano; any items of different origin are always clearly identified.

If you purchase from a physical store
Price can be an initial indicator: if it is significantly lower than comparable products, it is advisable to ask for clarification. Requesting a certificate stating the producer’s name allows you to verify authenticity.

If you purchase online
It is advisable to choose specialized retailers that provide clear information about the producer and origin. The mere use of the word “Murano” is not a guarantee.

Always keep in mind
If you have doubts, you may ask for an opinion from MuranoNet or from the Promovetro Consortium. We have always been committed to protecting the name Murano and Murano glass and are happy to provide guidance.

7) Is a product bearing the “Vetro Artistico® Murano” trademark always high quality?

The Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark certifies geographical origin only.
Quality may vary depending on the producer, technique and design. On the island of Murano there are both small independent artisans and structured companies, with different levels of craftsmanship and artistic approach.

8) Can a product without the “Vetro Artistico® Murano” label still be made in Murano?

Yes. The absence of the Vetro Artistico® Murano label does not necessarily mean that a product was not made on the island of Murano.

Over the years, several important and historic Murano brands have chosen not to join the Promovetro Consortium, considering the strength and recognition of their own name and artistic heritage to be sufficient. These include, by way of example and not limited to: Venini, Barovier & Toso, Seguso, Romano Donà, Dino Rosin.

In other cases, membership was not pursued due to production choices, such as the use of semi-finished components sourced from the Venetian area, or for economic and organizational reasons.

For this reason, a product may be made in Murano even without the official label. MuranoNet always clearly indicates the origin of each item on the product page, in order to ensure transparency.

9) Why does MuranoNet sell products without the “Vetro Artistico® Murano” label?

MuranoVitrum has always paid close attention to new and emerging glassmaking realities on the island of Murano, and considers it important to represent young and upcoming artists, sometimes even before they formally join the Promovetro Consortium.

At the same time, the lack of consortium membership by historic and well-established brands cannot reasonably justify their exclusion from the catalog. MuranoNet maintains long-standing professional relationships with many of these producers, often dating back to the moment they started their independent activity after years of apprenticeship in Murano furnaces.

We strongly believe in their work and consider it essential that these excellent artists and master glassmakers are represented in our catalog, while always providing clear and transparent information about product origin.

10) Are MuranoNet products certified?

All MuranoNet products carry at least one identifying label or mark:

MuranoVitrum
This mark identifies products created by selected artisans, mainly based on the island of Murano, unless otherwise specified.

Vetro Artistico® Murano
This is an official trademark established by the Veneto Region (Regional Law no. 70 of 23/12/1994), certifying that glass products are entirely made on the island of Murano according to traditional methods.
The label includes an identification code for the producer and is designed so that it cannot be removed without being damaged.
